Elegant and “look at me” glass blowing

These types of art glass are indeed very popular home decor items and include glass pumpkins, bowls, goblets, vases, garden adornments, ring holders, perfume bottles, paperweights and glass paintings. They come in a huge range in terms of colors and design. You can also get custom installations in order to match the ambiance and space requirements of your room.

Types of hand blown art glass:

Painting in Glass: Hand blown glass paintings are marvelous pieces of art that are full of sophisticated beauty, enrichment of colors, magical brilliance and diligence. Until recently these stylish and classy glass paintings adored only the interiors of the royal and elites families. These hand blown glass paintings are distinguished for their eye-catching clarity, absolute brilliance and use of rich and bold colors and add an extra life to your living room.

Glass Bowls: ou can use your decorative hand blown glass bowls for flowers or just keep them in the room as a decorative accent. The base colors are mostly bright and bold that capture and refract rays of light and create a great ambience. Apart from using these marvelous hand blown art glasses as a pedestal or coffee table piece, you can also use them as wall hangings.

Paperweights: The hand blown paperweights come in rich and bold colors as well as in many shapes and designs. They add eye catching colors to your working desk, study table, window sill of your living room, or anywhere else you like to. You can even personalize these paperweights and give them as gifts.

Glass Pumpkins: The hand blown glass pumpkins make a great gift during Halloweens. They are usually bright orange in color and have a nice ribbed side with curly or twisted jade green stems. The best part of these hand blown glass pumpkins are that they are exclusive and hence no chance of two pumpkin being alike.

Cleaning and maintaining hand blown art glasses:

Keep these hand blown art glasses out of direct sunlight as that can fade their colors over time.

Use small and soft bristled brush while cleaning dust from your hand blown art glasses.

Use warm water and a mild dishwashing detergent along with a soft cloth to wash these delicate art glasses.

A bold and colorful hand blown art glass can change the ambience of your room and adds a sophisticated look.

For many people, childhood just wasn’t complete without reading about the Little House on the Prairie or creating their own adventures in the great outdoors. Some people are just ingrained with an unmatched love for log cabins, wood floors, cooking dinner over an open fire, and cleaning the floor with the strokes of a broom instead of an electric-powered vacuum. You do not need to be the proud owner of a log cabin or even live near the woods or mountains to obtain the style of home that you want. Modern homes, whether they are in the city or country, can benefit from rustic decor. Whether you are trying to deck out your entire home in rustic style or just looking for ideas for a thematic room or event, rustic designs are a unique eye-catcher to combat ordinary designs.

Interior Accents

Decorating in the rustic home involves natural accents to complement the simple style of the home. For wooden floors, throw rugs are traditionally used to help keep the feet warm and comfortable particularly in areas near the sink and stove. Not only do they provide physical comfort, but they are a welcoming sight as well.

Many homes are decorated with pots of plants or flowers. Supplementing this greenery with twigs will create a more “woodsy” outdoor feel. Decorate bedposts or railings with vine. Be sure to include practical approaches such as choosing furniture that compliments a designated theme. If your kitchen or dining room is equipped with a bar, consider purchasing rustic bar stools. Other furniture such as wicker chairs will help achieve the desired look.

Burlap for All Occasions

Adding a rustic theme to buildings or property does not need to be an expensive venture. Burlap is a treasure when it comes to rustic decorations. It can be used in the home, on costumes, outdoors, and is especially helpful for special events and holidays to help keep the rustic feel for any occasion. Though burlap is commonly used as a strong sack to harbor objects and protect them from wet environments, there is more than meets the eye to this material.

- Halloween

Burlap adds a simple yet rustic and outdoorsy touch to any decoration. Perhaps its best uses are outdoors in the fall for such occasions as Halloween. Burlap is often used as part of a scarecrow. Stuffing a bag of burlap serves well as a scarecrow head attached to a flannel shirt and an old pair of jeans. Additionally, burlap is a naturally tattered-looking material. It is ideal for adding a haunted theme to any setting. Shredding strips of this material is a great way to make creepy curtains. If burlap is used as part of a costume, be sure to wear a layer of clothing between your skin and the burlap, as burlap is very coarse and will cause irritation.

- Thanksgiving Table Centerpiece

Burlap is possibly the most appropriately used decoration at Thanksgiving time. Its natural fibers create the rustic, harvest time feel that accentuate the season and can allow anyone to identify with the pilgrims who are commemorated on this holiday. Burlap can be purchased by the yard. Select the appropriate size according to your table. Simply lay the burlap over the table and cut to the appropriate length and width. To add some fun to this decoration, pull a few strands of the burlap long at intervals throughout the cloth. This will add a raggedy feel to the centerpiece.1

- For the Outdoor Lover

For those who seek an outdoor feel in their own home, try the following option. Purchase a large piece of burlap tailored to fit a specific portion of your wall. Using starch as an adhesive, apply the burlap to the wall. If the burlap pulls away from the wall in any place, add more starch until the piece lay completely flat against the wall. Since burlap already has several small holes throughout, you may now hook on any decor you wish such as large fishing lures. Additionally, place nails or brackets along the burlap to hang that mounted trophy bass, a straw hat, or various furs. For more information on adhering the burlap to the wall, follow the instructions in the second resource below.

Creating a rustic feel in the home is limited only by the extent of your imagination. Using everyday resources such as twigs, vines, and burlap enhance the outdoor quality of any decoration at a reasonable cost.

It’s almost Halloween and there’s lots of stuff to be scared of right now. Haunted houses, crazy looking pumpkins and even grown adults dressed in costumes dot almost every street corner. So…in the spirit of Halloween, here’s a few scary stories that might hit home with a lot of people.

1. The cleaning lady didn’t show up today. Did ghosts take her away? Did aliens abduct her? Nope. She just quit cleaning the house. Just like the last cleaning lady.

2. The maid service is late…..again. Is it because they think the home is haunted? Is it because the home is located on a creepy hollow? Nope. They just don’t care about the home. They’re unorganized. And they’re late every time.

3. The house cleaner keeps making the same mistakes over and over again. Did a resident goblin put that dust on the nightstand? Did the maid see a ghost in the mirror? Nope. The maid just forgot again. Just like last week.

4. The maid keeps leaving earlier and earlier. Is it because a baby’s doll is possessed? Is it because the homeowner’s dog is evil? Nope. She’s just gotten too comfortable with the homeowner. She’s the homeowner’s buddy. And the homeowner is no longer a customer.

5. Everyone seems to be hiring one bad housekeeper after another. Did a wicked witch cast a spell on everyone’s home? Is every house haunted and no one knows it? Nope. Everyone just keeps hiring the same person. Here’s the problem… Everyone wants their house cleaned. But no one really wants to pay a bunch of money much for it. After all, it’s just housecleaning. Anyone can do it!

And that’s the problem. In the housecleaning industry, eventually – just about anyone will do it. There’s a new housecleaning business starting right now. Because all it takes is a few bucks and a new cleaning service is up and running.

A person hires a house cleaner because they want a clean house. And in some cases, it’s just that simple. But in most cases, hiring a house cleaner is absolutely nothing to do with housecleaning.

Happy Halloween!!

Halloween has come and gone, but when you look around your house, you still notice some of the decorations that are left hanging. Then you realize those cobwebs are not decorations from Halloween, they are real cob webs, showing off how desperately your home needs to be cleaned from top to bottom.

The problem is, with the rest of the holidays coming up, how are you supposed to find time to give your home the deep cleaning it really needs? Your Thanksgiving dinner will take extra time – not just its cooking, but also with all of the extra trips to the grocery store and warehouse club store (Costco, Sam’s Club, BJ’s Wholesale Club, etc.). The falling leaves will remind you of the changing seasons, but then you will need to make sure they are raked up.

Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, or whatever winter holiday will be bringing more guests to your home, but even more need to prepare. Adding shopping for gifts to your list, let alone all of the decorating that seems to go with these holidays, leaves you with even less time.

You will most likely just find yourself running ragged just to get everything done on your list, but what the holidays are really about is spending time with your loved ones. Even though you just want to find that time together and some things on your list may get pushed to the side, you want your family to come to a clean house.

Housekeeping, however, can be the one activity that can take the most amount of your time if you want to get everything sparkling clean (something that can be of utmost importance if you have a finicky mother-in-law coming to visit). Also, most people do not like to take the time that is necessary to clean every nook and cranny of your home.

It is time to give yourself a present: hire a cleaning service or a maid to clean your house for you. Most areas have both professional cleaning companies and independent maids who will make your home spotless, for a fee. Be sure to find a housekeeper who is not only in your price range, but also someone you can trust. Referrals from friends and reviews on local search websites (aka, Yelp) are recommended.

Halloween is a great night of fun and laughter for everyone. Now that all your little goblins are home and rummaging through their sacks of candy, you better get ready for the Halloween Clean-up. When you find that more of the chocolate has ended up on their clothes than in their mouths – here are some things you need to have on hand to get out the chocolate stains.

1. Fels Napha Bar Soap*
2. Dawn dish washing detergent (foaming)*
3. Soap Flakes
4. Ivory Soap Bar

When your little one gets a chocolate stain on their cloths, try using the Soap Flakes or Ivory Soap first. It is gentler on the clothes and the water system. My grandmother always kept a bar a Fels Napha next to her old soap stone laundry sink. Whenever she saw a stain, she would just rub it away with that bar of soap. My mother in turn used the Ivory Soap bar and it seemed to work for her. The Dawn dish soap works well because it contains alcohol and cuts through the grease and oil in the chocolate. Make sure when you are trying to remove stains that you don’t use hot water and don’t put the clothing through the dryer until it’s totally gone. The heat from the dryer will permanently set the stain.

*The ingredients in these are not what I would consider “green”. I would consider using them for special spots and restricted usage.

Soap Flakes were manufactured by Ivory Soap until the 1970’s. We now import them from London. They are great for using as a regular laundry soap for gentle clothes and for people with sensitive skin.
